UTICA- Helmuth-Ingalls dropped another heartbreaker on Tuesday, a 9th-inning 7-6 loss to Utica Post. The loss is H-I’s third of the season, all of which have been by a single run, and is the second time a loss has come in extra innings.

H-I started the scoring in the second when Chris Hughes led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cory Gogola. After Utica responded with three runs in the 3rd, H-I tied the game with two runs in the top of the 4th. Tyler White led off and promptly stole second. Lee Foxton doubled White home and advanced to third on a wild pitch, before scoring on a ground ball to second base. The throw home was offline and Foxton slid in for the 3-3 tie.

Utica would go ahead 5-3 in the 5th inning, but H-I answered back once more, this time taking the lead 6-5 again started by the combination of White, Foxton, and Hughes. White walked and was followed by another double by Foxton. Hughes then hit a chopper towards first that took a high hop over the firstbaseman and scored both runners. Hughes advanced to second on the throw home trying to get Foxton. One out later, Jordan Doroshenko put H-I ahead with a deep double to left center field.

H-I squandered the slim lead in the bottom of the 7th, after getting two quick outs to start the inning. As the game moved to extra innings, Utica would maintain momentum despite numerous opportunities for H-I to move ahead - twice putting runners in scoring position in the 8th and 9th innings with one out and no outs respectively. Utica would score the game winning run of reliever Doroshenko in the bottom of the 9th on a one-out suicide squeeze bunt.

The loss drops H-I back to .500, at 3-3 on the season. They return to action on Wednesday night at home against Love Post of Boonville at 6pm.
